Dialogue on Experiences in Modern Warfare and Civilian Defense

2024/04/23

On April 23, 2024, Taiwan People's Party (TPP) was delighted to host a meeting with representatives from the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine (LDLU) at our Central Party Headquarters. The discussions focused on crucial aspects of war preparedness and information warfare, as well as internal problems that stem from war, such as housing issues and veteran reintegration. We discussed ways Taiwan can assist Ukraine, especially in economic development and trade cooperation, and emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive civil and military readiness, not just in traditional military preparedness but also in fostering a robust civil defense awareness among all citizens, which is critical for maintaining national resilience in the face of war. Both parties explored the impacts of misinformation in warfare, the significant displacement issues resulting from the Russia-Ukraine war, and the potential for enhancing economic ties through diversified trade and potential collaboration. The dialogue also highlighted the importance of democratic values and public participation in governance as essential contrasts to the methods of authoritarian states. The LDLU shared poignant experiences from the front lines of modern warfare, underscoring the importance of a holistic approach to national defense and citizen preparedness. This meeting reinforced our shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations and affirmed our mutual dedication to democracy, peace, and sustainable development.
